While I mostly talk about my site Crafty Tips on this blog, I also have another informational site called Help For Web Beginners. It is amazing how when you leave something alone for a while and come back to it, you finally see it as others do. In some sort of vane attempt on my part to prove my programming and CSS (cascading style sheets) prowess, I used a neat box effect instead of a banner across the top of each page. Combined with a somewhat childish color scheme, the overall effect was uhm, quite ugly.
Help For Web Beginners is just that. It’s a site that provides step-by-step and easy to understand tutorials on selected web programming topics.
So, much long overdo, Help For Web Beginners has been given a make-over. Admitting I should stick to designing crocheted things and stop trying to fool myself that I am some sort of web designer, I used a free website template created by someone with a more artistic flair then myself.
While they might have a better eye than I do, their web programming skills were somewhat lacking. So, after a few days of rewriting the code; I’ve created a site inspired by another, but redone to be my own.
I did create the site banner on my own and it is more colorful, yet more sophisticated than the old site ever could hope to be. I even learned a new PhotoShop technique from this site Deviant Art. OK, the blending technique is far from new, but it’s a new skill for me.
The good news is that all of the how-to’s and tutorials are still there, How to Change Link Appearance, How to Style Text, How to make MySpace Marquees – Part I, Image Marquees for MySpace, and all the others are still there. Over the next coming weeks I hope to refine some of the existing articles and add some new ones.
I would strongly recommend anyone with a crafty website to read Directory Submission Tips as it covers some tips and techniques to maximizing your search engine optimization (SEO) and link building efforts.
I hope you like the changes. Let me know if you have any comments or suggestions for new topics.
